WAR BIRD WINS “LADIES, LET’S GO FISHING!”® EVENT AT OCEAN REEF

The team of anglers aboard the sportfishing boat War Bird took First Place Offshore Division at the “Reel at the Reef” tournament hosted by “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!”® (LLGF) at the Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, FL July 23-24, 2005. A 19.5 lb. grouper caught by Nancy Edwards, Boynton Beach, FL, clinched the award for the boat.
Lady angler Bert Ward, North Port, FL, took Top Bonefish and Top Tarpon by releasing three bonefish and one tarpon, while teammate Michelle Owen, Tallahassee, FL, released one bonefish. Both were fishing with Capt. Darrick Parker. Fran Anderson, Delray Beach, FL took Top Inshore for the team on The Waterbill. Other notables during the fishing event include angler Mary Glode, Naples, FL, landing a 13 lb. dolphin aboard the sportfishing boat Mr. Nice. Other lady anglers attending the event reported catching and releasing an abundance of yellowtail snapper and blue runners.
The “Reel at the Reef” event, open to ladies and their male guests, kicked off with a social networking and educational event on Saturday evening, July 23. Fishing skills refresher stations such as casting and knot tying were offered, as well as a presentation on the Florida Grand Slam by Michelle Owen of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. On Sunday, July 24, participants went fishing and competed for trophies and awards.
LLGF also offers full weekend seminars with classes, hands-on skill station practice, social functions, fishing and a fillet class in the Florida locations of Ft. Lauderdale, Stuart, Sarasota and Islamorada. Special events are held in Alaska and Costa Rica.
