Denver, Colorado Freshwater Seminar - September 8 - 10, 200

Women Catch Fly Fishing Skills at Rocky Mountain “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!”® Seminar

9/06 — Women came from many places to learn fly fishing at the third “Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!” fly fishing seminar on Sept. 8-10 in Littleton, CO. Held in conjunction with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and sponsored by Eagle Claw, the seminar offered fly fishing classes, hands-on instruction and a guided fishing excursion. Known as the “No-Yelling School of Fishing,” the program’s objective was to teach women the fundamentals of fly fishing in a friendly, supportive setting. Bass Pro Shops was also a sponsor.

“I always wanted to fish, but couldn’t get past the fear of touching them,” said Cindy Rusch, Littleton, CO. After learning the basics and how to assemble her rod, she caught her first fish, exclaiming, “Now, I feel confident in my fishing abilities and am ready to practice, practice, practice! Touching my first fish as memorable, because everything about the experience was terrific!”

Cheryl Harrison, Castle Rock, CO took the course to learn skills so she could fish with her brother. Paula McInaney, Colorado Springs, CO came to re-establish her passion for fishing. She fished as a child but became too busy to participate.

Although they attended for different reasons, each found something in common with the group of 40 women.“We have found a unique way to put the ‘fun’ into fishing for women,” commented seminar Founder, Betty Bauman, named national “Woman of the Year” in the fishing industry by the American Sportfishing Association.

The weekend seminar began with a social event on Friday, Sept. 8 at Seagull ’s Resturant near Chatfield Marina. On Saturday, the women spent the day at the Kassler Environmental Center learning beginner and advanced fishing techniques presented by the area's best instructors, including Janice O’Shea/Trout Trips, Al Noraker/Wright & McGill Co., Terry Wickstrom/Mountain States Fishing, Dave Maynard/Fishing Across America TV show and more.

The seminar offered instruction and “hands-on” practice at skill stations such as fish ID, safety and regulations, wet and dry flies, knot tying, fly equipment usage, fly casting, conservation skills and more. On Sunday, the women went fly fishing for a half day, with the help of guides, on fully stocked Lake LeHow.

The next LLGF seminar, a saltwater fishing weekend seminar where the ladies can target dolphin, tuna, wahoo, sailfish, snook, bonefish, trout, tarpon, grouper and more, will be held Oct. 13-15 in Islamorada, Florida Keys.

The $95 seminar registration for the Rocky Mountain seminar included instruction, meals, T-Shirts, goody bags, the guided fishing trip and more.
