NW Florida Homosassa

Ladies, Let’s Go Scalloping in Homosassa! July 28-30, 2017

Scalloping is on Sat. July 29, Sunday July 30 or you can choose both days.

Completed! Come back for out 2018 schedule!

Scalloping is a blast! REGISTER by clicking HERE

Note Hotels are very booked as of January so you should try to book this by end of January. After that you might be out of luck for lodging or scallop boat availability.

For Homosassa scalloping, snorkel in crystal clear water, hold your breath, take a shallow dive down, place either your hand or small dip net behind or under the scallop, and gently place it in your mesh bag. For scallops you will learn what to look for, they have blue eyes that shine. A novice can do it. You can get multiple scallops at a time. The boat works as a team go get scallops then shares them. They are great to eat and some local restaurants there may cook them for you. Plus our guides have excellent recipes.

Scalloping is part snorkeling experience, part treasure dive and part saltwater fishing experience that can be enjoyed by family members of all ages. Spend quality time and create memories that will last a lifetime! Enjoy a scenic ride out the Homosassa River to the BEST scalloping grounds in the state. To see a video about scalloping from our speaker click HERE.

All it takes is a snorkel, a mask and a mesh bag to get in on the action. Bring your own for your own comfort or they have snorkel setups.

The bag limit is 2 gallons of whole scallops, (in the shell), or 1 pint of scallop meat per person per day. In addition, no more than 10 gallons of whole scallops or 1/2 gallon of scallop meat may be possessed aboard any vessel at any time.

Cleaning of scallops is available dockside. We supply license, coolers, ice and expert instructions, in and out of the water. What you’ll need to bring is snorkel, mask, fins (if you have), drinks, food, and sun protection, (hat, t-shirt, lotion, sunglasses).

We highly recommend the morning charters for a few reasons, fewer boats so it’s not as crowded, (especially weekends), it’s not as hot and less chance of summertime thunderstorms. However if you like to sleep in then do the afternoon.

Our guides have perfected the technique of catching Scallops in Homosassa, and over the last few seasons, they usually catch our limit of scallops within two hours! It’s like an Underwater Easter Egg Hunt!

While it’s mostly ladies, men and teens can register too to include the family.

Registration is only $45 per person, scalloping is $110 per person for a 4 hour trip. You book your own room, see below for choices.

Note: We have one lady who wants to share a room, email us through our contact form if you want to do this.

Boats leave from near Mac Rae’s of Homosassa, 5290 S. Cherokee Way, Homosassa, FL 34448 but they are sold out for hotel rooms. There are some smaller hotels in that area but most are already filled. So we are offering other hotels about 10 miles from there, not far. You can choose and book your own hotel and meet the ladies Saturday early evening. So if we are not at the same hotel you can hook up with the other ladies and make friends. You will have to get from your hotel to the boat.

This is one of their busiest seasons of the year, so book early! Really in January a lot of hotels were already sold out.

Boats take up to six people.

$110 pp for 4 hour scalloping trip by boat. You can do multiple trips like Saturday plus Sunday and also there is excellent kayaking to the springs you can book on your own through your hotel.

Fishing Times and choices:

  • Saturday 7:30 till Noon
  • Sunday 7:30 till  Noon
  • Be flexible in your time decision as we may have to merge trips to fill a boat. In that case we will notify you if we have to change your time to fill a boat.
